To celebrate Earth Month, Channel 8, Houston's PBS station, will air Beach Drive at 10:30 PM on Tuesday, April 3, 2007. Of the 42 homes on Beach Drive that have are in violation of the Texas Open Beaches Act, one has been removed. Thirteen more will follow in the coming weeks. Others visit the ocean at every vacation or jump at investment opportunities in rental property. The beach houses that we cherish don’t move, but Texas beaches change every day due to coastal erosion, dune migration, and the lasting effects of storms and hurricanes. When the sand slowly erodes away leaving your home standing in water, what can you do and who can you blame? The film examines the causes of coastal erosion and asks who is responsible for safeguarding public rights and private property? Featuring interviews with former State Senator A.R. "Babe" Schwartz, chairman of Surfriders Foundation Texas Chapter Ellis Pickett, and rental property owner Russell Clinton. Total run time is 28:00 minutes.
