a thousand days
A child when he left home, Matthew was an adult when he returned three years later—older, regretful, burdened with shame, but exonerated by pride. The subject of our short documentary is not a typical runaway, but his experience of transition, of finding his place and making his home in a lonely and harsh environment, resonates with many. The film uses a projector and experimental cinematography, along with audio recordings of phone calls, and journal entries to retrace Matthew’s steps as he visits Cincinnati, the place he called home for over three years.
